We will be prioritising Wellbeing, Personal Growth, Cultural Expression, and Connections. We aim to create a session that brings people together, helps us grow, even if it’s in small ways.

NSC Bruges is Powered By

For Bruges 2026, the visions of EYP BelgiumStreekfonds West-Vlaanderen and the King Baudouin Foundation come together in a shared commitment to strengthening communities through social engagement
and cultural connection

United by the theme “Heart to Heart, Brick by Brick: Building Community through Culture,” this event reflects EYP Belgium’s vision to empower young people as active Europeans; Streekfonds West-Vlaanderen’s mission to create strong, local communities, increasing societal impact; and the King Baudouin Foundation’s long-standing focus on social cohesion and inclusive cultural development.

It is precisely this shared belief in the power of culture and sustainable social community-building as a driver of dialogue and solidarity that makes Streekfonds West-Vlaanderen and the King Baudouin Foundation the primary sponsors of Bruges 2026, supporting an initiative that builds community step by step through trust, collaboration, and shared values.

Frozen Assets
As melting ice unlocks access to vast Arctic reserves of critical raw materials such as rare earths, nickel, and cobalt, global powers are racing to claim economic and strategic advantage. In light of environmental fragility, indigenous rights, and international relations at stake, how can the EU balance their pursuit of resource security with efforts to promote sustainability and cooperation within an increasingly contested region?

AFCO

Pump up the Jam
The EU's youth is increasingly turning to protests, strikes, and online activism as a form of political participation, while youth turnout in EU elections remains significantly below average, raising questions about the perceived legitimacy of electoral politics. What steps should the EU take to rebuild trust in electoral democracy among young people while respecting alternative forms of political expression?

CULT

Third Place or No Place?
Despite EU dialogue, many young people lack access to “third places” - cultural and community venues beyond home and school - due to financial, geographical, and representational barriers, deepening inequalities in participation and weakening the role of culture as a community bridge. How can the EU make cultural and third places more accessible and inclusive, ensuring genuine community building across Europe?

HOUS

A Place To Call Home
With rents climbing and more than 1.28 million people across the EU either homeless or in emergency accommodation, Europe's housing crisis is putting increasing pressure on vulnerable groups, often young people, leaving them in socio-economic adversity. As cities become less affordable, how should the EU ensure fair access to housing for everyone?

IMCO I

High Stakes
As sports betting rapidly expands into one of Europe’s largest gambling sectors, fragmented national regulations remain insufficient to address systemic risks such as match-fixing, addiction, and cross-border fraud. How can the EU establish a comprehensive policy framework that upholds the integrity of sport while ensuring consumer protection across Member States?

IMCO II

RelocAIting
Although the European AI ecosystem is growing, it remains far from challenging the USA's tech hegemony. With many European start-ups either relocating or being acquired by US investors, the continent struggles to retain control over its own innovation. As small businesses are bought out before they can scale, how can the EU protect its internal market and foster globally competitive industry leaders?

JURI I

Behind closed doors
Amid growing concerns over foreign interference in European politics and scandals like Qatargate happening, how can the EU strengthen transparency while curbing the influence of lobbyists and foreign actors in shaping European policies?

JURI II

Catch me if EU can!
Organised crime networks increasingly exploit the EU’s open borders, with almost 70% of networks operating in more than three Member States. Yet law enforcement remains fragmented at the national level, as criminals move faster than judicial cooperation and capitalise on differences between national legal frameworks. With this in mind, how can the EU strengthen cross-border enforcement while respecting national sovereignty?

SANT

Out of stock!
Many European states are currently facing a shortage of essential medicines, partly caused by rising manufacturing costs and inflation. With the increased demand across Europe further straining public healthcare systems, how can the EU ensure safe and accessible medicine for all?

LIBE

19 felonies, no convictions
Belgium has one of the highest rates of prison overcrowding in

Europe, with 113 inmates for every available 100 places. With the prison population consistently

rising across the continent, how can the EU ensure humane detention conditions while addressing

the root causes of overcrowding?
